Our mission is to empower families to self-sufficiency. We hope McHenry House Tracy Family Shelter is the last shelter of temporary housing program that the families we serve will need. We offer counseling, guidance, referrals of employment and housing.
Learn MoreSince 1987, the McHenry House Tracy Family Shelter has responded to the needs of families in crisis from Tracy and regions surrounding the City. Over 6,439 children have passed through the doors of McHenry House Tracy Family Shelter. Currently we operate in Tracy, California and are able to provide housing and support for up to 7 families.
We provide a path to self-sufficiency through the teaching of basic life skills, counseling, support, direction, housing, medical care, treatment for addictions and employment guidance. Our services are provided regardless of race, age, creed, religion, national origin, disability or marital status.
McHenry House Tracy Family Shelter is a 501(c)(3) corporation recognized by the Internal Revenue Service and qualified to grant receipts for tax-deductible donations. McHenry House is governed by a board of directors and is audited annually.
Through our program, we offer a broad mix of activities, special events, resources and targeted services that are available days, evenings, weekends and holidays. These include food and clothing, referrals to medical and mental health, birthday, holidays and cultural celebrations. The children of McHenry House Tracy Family Shelter have experienced a multitude of traumas, including the absence of a parent and always the loss of a home. Our program is designed to keep the family together and to cope with the problems that affect them.

Built in 1910 and renovated in 1974 as a single family home, The McHenry House for the Homeless has a long history. Originally, it was built with six bedrooms, each containing it's own washbasin and one bathroom. The house had two parlors, a dining room, a kitchen, a sun porch, front and back porch and a balcony.
In 1915, the home was purchased by Major Rice and his wife. Under the ownership of the couple, the home served as a rooming house for the railroad people of Tracy. In 1918 the Rice family moved the structure to a larger lot facing the street.
They then constructed "Douglas Arms" apartments with eight units on the other half of the lot. Along with these units, the Rice family also owned ten garages and a small house situated to the south of the apartments.
In 1974 the property was sold to Burton and Barbara Fizpatrick. The Fizpatricks lived in this Victorian house for 14 years, then they sold it to the non-profit and it became the McHenry House Tracy Family Shelter.
McHenry House Tracy Family Shelter needs your support. Therefore we plan several community events each year, giving the community of Tracy several opportunities to contribute and serve. Thank you for supporting the McHenry House!
